August is starting out big with races we are aware of at 4 different raceways. Kicking things off will be Charlie's Garage in Pearl, MS. Charlie's Garage will be starting on Friday night, August 4th with Super Modifieds on the 90' tri-oval. The racing will be hot and heavy in this class as everyone is trying to figure out that little extra edge to give them the win. A lot of innovations are going into these little cars. I believe it will be won based on creativity of the builders as much as the actual driving. I have seen what a couple of the racers are working on and they are taking things to the limits of the imagination. On Saturday Charlie's Garage will be racing JK Box Stock. This is a RTR JK car that comes with a C21 chassis and a Hawk 7 motor. With the way the new Hawk 7's have been running the race may very well be won by the person that has the oldest motor and can keep it together. Following the JK cars they will be running Wing car class. The wing cars are really flying on the 105' Orange track. There are a number of competitive cars in this class and the winner may come by luck of the draw for who they race with and who can keep a gear mesh.
On Saturday, August 5th Pratville will be running their monthly race program. This is a highly competitive group of racers who will not beat me this month. I will not be there. If I were to be there I would probably finish up last again. These guys can really drive. The track is 150' of speed mixed with driving technique. You cannot win just being fast on this track, you have to be a good technical driver also. They will be racing JK Cup (JK indy/f1), DTM/Turbo Flex, and GTP in a fast paced race program. This is one of the best run/organized tracks I have been to. The inspections are close and the racing will be closer.
Saturday will also be the day for the Summer Speedfest at Hot Slots in Lewisburg, TN. They will be racing Can Am Retro cars, GTP, and 2 classes of Hard Body Nascar. This will be an exciting day on one of the most exciting tracks in the South. This day has been planned for a good while and should be a great event to attend.
In Marietta, GA Womp Womps will be the star of the day. Cordle Model Speedway will be racing three classes of Womps. The classes are Sportsman, Legend, and Stock Car. It is my understanding that two of these classes will run on a Hill Climb layout and the other class will run on an oval. I wish I had more information on this but that is the best I can do.
Get out to a track this weekend, keep the trigger squeezed and your eyes on the track.
